Dr. Tom Grenell was born and raised in New Jersey and received an Animal Science degree from Virginia Tech before attending veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania (V.M.D., 1984).
He practiced in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. and Richmond, VA during the 11 years prior to the opening of the Animal Hospital of Emporia. Dr. Grenell enjoys all aspects of a small animal hospital, with a particular interest and proficiency in soft tissue surgery.
In his spare time, Dr. Grenell enjoys golfing, road biking and backpacking, having hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (1988). Other hikes have included a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Machu Picchu in Peru, Antarctica, and the Himalayas (Nepal), as well as many places in the Western U.S.
Kaye Hasty (VMT) graduated from Central Carolina Community College as a Veterinary Technician. She has worked as a Veterinary Technician for over 30 years. Kaye started working at the Animal Hospital of Emporia in June 1996. She currently has 2 dogs; Bella and Pete.
Sarah Antis (LVT) started working at the Animal Hospital of Emporia in November 2018. Sarah graduated from Blue Ridge Community College as a Licensed Veterinary Technician in 1991. She still practices as a LVT here at the Animal Hospital of Emporia. She currently has 1 cat named Tidbit and 1 dog named Coco Puff.
Heather Delbridge joined our team here at the Animal Hospital of Emporia in August 2019. She has been working as a Veterinary Technician for about 23 years, and continues to do so here. She has 1 cat named Wiggles, and 1 dog named John.
Kate Finch has been with the Animal Hospital of Emporia since 2000. She is the office manager, as well as a receptionist and a kennel assistant. She has 1 cat named Simon and 1 dog named Ruger.
Jennifer Bowie started working here at the Animal Hospital of Emporia in December 2019. She is our Full-Time receptionist. Jennifer has 2 German Shepard’s named, Moose and Kaia.
Melanie Powell has lived in Emporia all of her life and has been married to the love of her life for 37 years. She has two grown children, Carl and Caitlin, her daughter- in-law Kelli and two wonderful grandchildren Mackenzie and Emerson. She has one dog named Lady and two cats, Dumplin and Pearl. Melanie has been with the Animal Hospital of Emporia for 18 years.
Mary Jarrell joined the Animal Hospital of Emporia in November 2016. She is our Kennel Supervisor, and she also works alongside our kennel assistants. She has 4 dogs named, Boudreaux, Fancy, Cardi, and Gucci.
Renee Swick started working at the Animal Hospital of Emporia in January 2019. She works as a Kennel Assistant. Renee has 3 dogs named, Rosie, Nina, and Clyde. She also has 2 cats named, CJ and Milo.
Cierra Moss started working at the Animal Hospital of Emporia in March 2019. She is one of our many Kennel Assistants. She has 1 dog named Tank. Cierra adopted Tank from our local animal shelter in April 2019.
Courtney Thomas volunteered here at the Animal Hospital of Emporia for 2 summers before she started working. She started working in 2005. Courtney is one of our Kennel Assistants. She currently has 3 dogs named, Bella, Bindi, and Boomer, and 1 cat named, Toby.
Tammy Garrison is our groomer here at the Animal Hospital of Emporia. Tammy was certified as a Master Groomer in 1986, and has been grooming ever since. Tammy is in our office once a week and her grooming patients love her, and we do too.
Famous Amos came to us by our local Animal Control in 2009. He was sick when he arrived and after much care and love we adopted him. He is our door greeter and our hospital patient’s companion sitter. He has become a wonderful part of everyone’s day, and his contributions are most appreciated by our staff and clients.
