Dr. Tom Grenell was born and raised in New Jersey and received an Animal Science degree from Virginia Tech before attending veterinary school at the University of Pennsylvania (V.M.D., 1984).
He practiced in Roanoke Rapids, N.C. and Richmond, VA during the 11 years prior to the opening of the Animal Hospital of Emporia. Dr. Grenell enjoys all aspects of a small animal hospital, with a particular interest and proficiency in soft tissue surgery.
In his spare time, Dr. Grenell enjoys golfing, road biking and backpacking, having hiked the entire Appalachian Trail (1988). Other hikes have included a climb of Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania, Machu Picchu in Peru, Antarctica, and the Himalayas (Nepal), as well as many places in the Western U.S.
Ashlei Hobbs True started working at the Animal Hospital of Emporia in 2008. After graduating high school in 2010, she attended Blue Ridge Community College and received an Associate Applied Science degree as a Licensed Veterinary Technician.
Kaye Hasty graduated from Central Carolina Community College as a Veterinary Technician. She has worked as a veterinary technician for about 30 years. Kaye has two adult children and lives on a farm. She has had a variety of animals of her own ranging from hamsters to horses. Kaye has been with the animal hospital for 18 years.
Kate Finch grew up in Emporia, VA. She currently lives in Stony Creek, VA with her husband of 10 years. She has two dogs and one cat (Bridgette, Simon and Ruger), which are her children. She has been with the Animal Hospital of Emporia for 15 years as a receptionist, office manager and kennel assistant. In her spare time she and her husband drag race on the weekends with their 1979 Chevy Malibu.
Melanie Powell has lived in Emporia all of her life and has been married to the love of her life for 37 years. She has two grown children, Carl and Caitlin, her daughter- in-law Kelli and two wonderful grandchildren Mackenzie and Emerson. She has one dog named Lady and two cats, Dumplin and Pearl. Melanie has been with the Animal Hospital of Emporia for 18 years.
Tammy Garrison is our groomer. A Highland Springs, VA resident, Tammy was certified as a Master Groomer in 1986, and has been grooming ever since. Tammy is in our office once a week and her grooming patients love her. And we do too.
Courtney Thomas was born and raised here in Emporia. “Redd” works as one of our many kennel assistants and she loves the animal hospital atmosphere with all of the variety of activity. She has raised a new born kitten named “Toby” who seems to love his mommy!, the apple of her eye. Bindi, Trixy and Bella, the other siblings can be quite jealous.
Famous Amos came to us by way of our local Animal Control. He was sick when he arrived and after much care and love we adopted our door greeter and our hospital patient’s companion sitter. He has become a wonderful part of everyone’s day, and his contributions are most appreciated by our staff and clients.
